What kind of label do you want to make?

Pick a type and everything is set up for you (code, sheet size and design). You can change anything afterwards.

Code type

To make several different labels (for example, several products with their prices) on the same sheet.

Print at 100% · “Actual size”. Never “Fit to page”.

Several different labels on the same sheet? Add another label

Your product lists, prices and logos are never uploaded to any server. The PDF, PNG, SVG and ZIP are created on your own device. So you don't lose your work, a copy is kept only in this browser (you can delete it with “Clear all”).

Name tags you can read from five feet away

The tool above is set up with the “Name / event” template: the name, centered and in large type, with a small line underneath for the role, the company or the table number. Type the name in “Name” and the detail in “Reference”; the type grows by itself until it fills the label without spilling over, so a short name comes out huge and a long one splits over two lines.

Which sheet to use

  • 4 × 2 in (Avery 5163, 10 per Letter sheet): the classic conference name tag, with very readable type.
  • 3⅜ × 2⅓ in (Avery 5395, 8 per Letter sheet): the classic size of adhesive name badge labels.
  • 4 × 1⅓ in (Avery 5162, 14 per Letter sheet): a more compact option, good for meetings, classes and workshops.
  • On A4 paper: 99.1 × 67.7 mm (Avery L7165, 8 per sheet), 99.1 × 57 mm (L7173, 10 per sheet) or 99.1 × 38.1 mm (L7163, 14 per sheet).

A list of 40 people takes 4 sheets with the Avery 5163 and 3 with the 5162. If you have sheets from another brand, use the custom grid with the measurements on the packaging.

Make the whole list at once

  1. Prepare a spreadsheet with the name in one column and the role, company or table in another (the tool reads it as the “reference”).
  2. Switch to “Many labels” mode, copy the cells and paste them in “Paste from Excel”, or load the CSV file.
  3. Check the gallery: you will see each label as it will come out. If a long name ends up small, shorten it (for example, first name and surname only).
  4. Download the PDF and do a test on plain paper before using the adhesive sheets.

Tips so they look good

  • Black ink on a white background is the most readable from a distance. If you want color, keep it dark with good contrast.
  • Wear it on the right side of your chest: it is usually recommended because it reads naturally when you shake hands.
  • Prepare spare labels with a generic name (“Guest”, “Speaker”) for anyone who turns up without being on the list, and write the name by hand with a marker.
  • To control entry, you can turn on “Include a barcode or QR on the label” and give each person a code to scan at the door.

How to print them without misalignment

Download the PDF and print it with “Actual size” or “Scale 100%”, never “Fit to page”. Before wasting sheets, use the “Test sheet”. More in the guide to Avery templates.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best name tag label size?

For conferences and events, the 4 × 2 in label (Avery 5163, 10 per Letter sheet) gives very readable type. For meetings or classes, 4 × 1⅓ in (Avery 5162, 14 per sheet). On A4, 99.1 × 67.7 mm (L7165) is the closest equivalent.

How do I make labels for a whole guest list?

Switch to “Many labels” mode, copy the name and role columns from Excel and paste them. One label is generated per person, all on the same sheet.

Does the type size adjust to the name?

Yes. In the “Name / event” template the type grows by itself until it fills the label without spilling over, and long names split over two lines.

Are the names uploaded to any server?

No. The guest list is processed in your browser and the PDF is generated on your device. Nothing is sent to any server.

Can I add a QR code to control entry?

Yes. Turn on “Include a barcode or QR on the label” in step 1, choose QR or Code 128 and give each person a different code to scan at the door.
